Techniques to carry a tall ladder

Tall ladders require an even greater degree of care than short ladders. Although a tall ladder provides numerous rungs, never allow anyone else to climb the ladder when you’re already on it. Two people on a ladder may exceed the ladder’s weight limit or cause a shift that topples the ladder. Avoid using a tall ladder on a particularly windy day. The higher you climb, the stronger the wind is likely to be.

When transporting a tall ladder within your outdoor space, grasp the ladder and hoist it onto your shoulder if possible (refer image 1 if you are working alone and Image 2 if you are working with another person). Enlisting the help of a family member, friend or neighbour to help you carry a tall ladder from one location to another site is the best practice. This help to prevent from body aches because carrying a tall ladder for too long by yourself may hurt your body, especially on your back! When you transport a tall ladder on a vehicle, the ladder should be tied securely to the vehicle, and a red flag or red cloth should be tied to the ladder’s end to make other drivers aware of its presence.
